Blood Sucker Irish Whiskey

This was an academic brief to develop a name, brand identity and packaging design for a new limited edition whiskey.

My target audience is 18 - 30 year olds, who are interested in horror movies and fictional stories.

I feel that I have achieved this through my use of colour palette, icons and typography

Mind Map Development

The mind map sketches helped me consider multiple factors for my project such as:

  • Whiskey demographics

  • Whiskey names

  • Whiskey Brands with animals

I also developed some early whiskey branding  based on the horror genre as it is unique and creative for a

whiskey brand.

Possible Whiskey Names

  • Impaler

  • Slasher

  • Thirsty Vampire

  • Slash

  • Demonic

  • Barren

  • Sharp

  • Possession

  • Heartbeat

  • Heart

  • Dread

  • Vampire Bourbon

  • Terror

  • Loudness

  • Hunter

  • The Butcher

  • Hatchet

  • Claws

  • The Stalker

  • Obsession

  • Curdling

  • Enigmatic

  • Blood Sucker

I decided to focus on single or double names for my whiskey branding as it is easier to recognise.

The brand title will be enigmatic and have multiple meanings as the target audience will want to question and figure out the background of the storyline.

'BloodSucker' is going to be the title of my whiskey brand as it sounds memorable and reminds the consumer of vampires.

My colour palette represents the darkness, moonlit nights and blood. These are commonly seen in vampire movie plots. It the colours also contrast against each other.

My goal was to make the packaging feel bold and eye catching with my chosen fonts. I used Halloween's ITC Serif Gothic Font due to it's sharp legibility and readability, while fitting into the horror movie narrative with visually sharp edges.

I decided on Piazzolla for my body font as it featured a readable sans serif type that is creepy and can be recognised from a distance easily.

I have created a physical design of my final mockup bottle. I have coloured the glass with pebeo vitrail glass crimson coloured paint to replicate the colour of blood. After painting the bottle I had to let the paint dry for 60 minutes before curing it in the oven for a further 30 mins. Finally, I attached my own customised label to the bottle
